Opening Friday October 6, New Artist Fair London returned to the Truman Brewery for its 13th year, showcasing an extensive collection of works from independent artists. As an artist and art enthusiast, I was thrilled to explore the bustling space, meet some artists and the organisers, and learn about their creative process. I had the opportunity to meet several artists and discuss their work.
John Simpson was keen to share his creative process, revealing how he turns discarded materials, for example, from old kitchens and cupboards into beautiful portraits and artworks. I really loved the portrait of himself in the picture below. Strangely captivating and stunningly surreal 🤩
The Cosmos Collection by Anans Thathamma impressed me and I had to stand up close to the work to see it better. It features a series of paintings that depict various celestial bodies and galaxies. The Thathamma’s work is characterized by vibrant colors and intricate details, which bring to life the beauty of the cosmos.
Kevin Kane is a figurative artist who explores the intricate relationship between gender, sexuality, and personal identity. Born and raised in a religious Catholic household, Kane’s upbringing had a profound impact on his artistic expression, shaping his bold and explicit artwork depicting intimate scenes of the human form. Kevin Kane’s art is a reflection of his journey towards self-discovery and sexual identity exploration. His work challenges societal norms and expectation, offering a unique perspective on the human experience.
It was thrilling to get up close and personal with these talented artists, gaining more insight into their creative minds. Alex Bras uses her partner in some of her fantastic pictures, she told me that her unique style and vision of the world bordered on the apocalyptic.
David Kirkman’s artwork is a unique blend of abstract painting and printmaking. His paintings are vibrant and expressive, featuring bold colours and contrasting shapes that remind me a bit of street art. He incorporates joy and positivity into his pieces, which he achieves through his innovative use of colour and form.
Amidst the vibrant and diverse array of talents at the New Artists Art Fair, I also found the Georgian Art Gallery Stand Noblesse showcasing the work of Merab Gagiladze’s which caught held my attention. Gagiladze’s elongated figures and faces were entrancing to look at. It was a testament to the power of storytelling through an exotic iconography, as each piece seemed to narrate a unique and deeply personal journey. His art transcended mere aesthetics, delving into the depths of the human experience.
As I strolled through the bustling aisles of the New Artists Art Fair, I saw the captivating work of Balthazar Mattar. What struck me most about his pieces was his ability to transcend boundaries and communicate with viewers through shapes and figures interacting. The artist’s compositions created a visual language that invited viewers to engage in a deep and reflective dialogue.
Leaving the New Artists Art Fair, I couldn’t help but feel inspired by the innovative and thought-provoking creations of upcoming emerging artists breaking onto the London’s contemporary art scene. I took some more pics of works I liked which you can see below.
